Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was first premiered on November 10, 2016, in New York and was released worldwide on November 18, 2016. The movie is the first of the upcoming movie sequel based on one of the companion books of Harry Potter. This was J.K Rowling’s first debut in screen writing; Rowling said in an interview by Telegraph U.K , “I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about” and she eventually did, as a screenwriter, because she thought that the idea of Scamander “being realised by another author was difficult.”
The movie is set in New York in 1926, seventy years before the Harry Potter series, and features Newton Scamander as the main character. Scamander is a wizard from England who has been travelling the world in research of magical creatures since 1918, and he arrives at New York in order to release a creature to its own habitat. In New York, some of his Fantastic Beasts escape from his suitcase, and he and his animals are accused of causing all the unexplained phenomenons that destroy New York. The movie expands on this premise and shows the amazing adventure that Newt Scamander and other characters go through in order to prove themselves innocent. Eddie Redmayne, who won last year’s Oscar, played Newt Scamander, the lead character of the movie, and other actors such as Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, and Ezra Miller came out in the movie as important characters as well.
As a person who hasn’t watched Harry Potter, I was quite hesitant whether I should watch the movie or not. However, looking at the positive feedbacks of the movie from many critics, I made a decision to watch the movie. Despite my worries that I might not understand the movie or enjoy it, the movie was well explained enough that a “Harry Potter Illiterati” like me had fun watching the movie. I was spellbound by the movie throughout the entire running time. The movie was original, fascinating, and full of fantastical features. There were some parts of the movie that might’ve seemed a little childish to some, but Eddie Redmayne’s amazing acting made every single minute of the movie realistic and fun. If you still haven’t watched the movie, I strongly recommend that you go and meet the fantastic creatures right now in theatre. The movie is still screening in most of the movie theatres so go check out when and where you can watch the “Fantastic Beasts”.
