The upcoming film “Logan,” directed by James Mangold, has many people jumping in their seats, while the other half cries in the corner.
On March 3rd of 2017, the new film “Logan,” starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, will come to theaters. The plot of the film is based around the comic by Marvel called “Old Man Logan.” Wolverine’s real name is Logan, and the comic is about Wolverine’s revenge.
In the comics, Wolverine, mind controlled by a villain named Mysterio, ends up killing the whole X-men team. Torn apart by guilt, he attempts to commit suicide but only ends up weakening his healing powers--it doesn’t kill him. Because of the damage, he begins to age. Now, Wolverine is old, and so are all the other heroes. Hulk’s grandchildren, who like to terrorize others, kill Wolverine’s family. With an unstoppable rage, Wolverine goes on a rampage to avenge his family.
When the production of movie was announced, half of the fans cheered. However, the other half did not. In the comic “Old Man Logan,” which the movie is based off of, there are many key characters in the story like Hawkeye, Hulk, Red Skull, and Loki. The problem is that FOX, the studio that owns Wolverine and the X-men, do not own the other key characters. The other characters belong to Marvel and Disney which comes to show that the story line of the classic comic book will be changed.
This will be the last time Hugh Jackman will be reprising the role of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman’s contract with FO X will end afterwards, which means that the possibility of Wolverine showing up in future movies is very low. However, in the movie, X-23, a female clone of Wolverine played by Dafne Keen, appears. Fans predict that the legacy of Wolverine will be passed down to the girl, and the girl will be the main star of future X-men movies. Although the fans are debating on how the movie will be, they are sad to see Hugh Jackman leave the role of Wolverine, which he has played for almost 17 years.
Hugh Jackman was 31 when he starred in the first X-men movie. He is now 48 years old.
Hugh Jackman is actually a foot too tall to play Wolverine. Wolverine is 5 foot 3 while Hugh Jackman is 6 foot 3.
